What Do You Want to Be When You GROW UP?

How many times did you get asked when you were younger, "What do you want to be when you grow up?'

I always thought being a flight attendant would be the coolest job out there!  I looked into it and was crushed when I found out my eyesight was not good enough.  I guess in the event of a emergency you need to be able to see to help your passengers -- even if you lose a contact.

Fast forward to present day.  I am a wife, mother to two teenagers and 3 pups.  I have a pretty good gig working at my kids private school.  The hours are good and I get a nice tuition discount.  No complaining.

Still, many days I this where God wants me to be?  Am I serving Him?  What exactly is my purpose?  Do I have any spiritual gifts?  When I leave this Earth, will I be remembered for anything worthwhile?

Does your mind ever spin like mine?  I used to be caught up with what the Jones' had, how they got it and how in the world could they ever keep it?  Then I finally had a light bulb moment.  Who cares what the Jones' have?  What Marty and I have we earned ALL BY OURSELVES.  No help from family -- Just from our own hard work and that was a huge accomplishment to me.

I AM content with what I have.  I REALLY AM.  Material objects don't seem to matter anymore.

I am blessed beyond measure.

I do not desire a high paying, high pressure job.  I DO HOWEVER, desire my work to matter to someone or something.  Maybe it does?

But am I doing everything God intended me to do?  Have I grown up?  I don't think so.

As I ponder over these deep thoughts, I wish you a safe and happy weekend!

If the World Ended Tomorrow......

....continuing on with the 30 day blog challenge that is slow to complete.

Challenge #16

If the world were to end tomorrow, what would you do with your time today?

Such a deep thought that instantly bring tears to my eyes...

As I try to do each day, I would say Thank You for ALL I have been blessed with.

I would snuggle up with those who I am closest to -- Marty, Peyton, Bailey, Granny Nellie, Jake, Snickers and Jet and tell them how thankful I am to have been a part of their life.

Take the time to tell someone today how much they mean to you.

Who do you Fancy?

Blog Challenge #15

Yeah for me!  Half way to my goal of finishing the 30 Day Blog Challenge.

Today, I am supposed to post a photo of someone I fancy at the moment. he is....

...Marty White

We've been married 19 years and he takes EXCELLENT care of me and the kids and the pets and the house and pretty much EVERYTHING!  I would be lost without him.  We would all be lost without him!

This is my favorite picture of him as a child.  The grin is a familiar one to me.  It's the smile he tries not to show when he is being a little devious.

Who do you fancy?

Blog Challenge #14

Hey y'all!  What do you think about my new blog design?  Thought I would freshen it up!

Still working on my 30 day blog challenge.  Today's assignment is to post pictures of my "celebrity" crushes.  This should be interesting!

Please note that some of these "crushes"have been either disgraced in the media or were "one-hit wonders".  Here we go in no particular order....

Mark Wahlberg
aka Marky Mark

My family is so very tired of watching this movie with me.  I think I pop this DVD in at least once every 3 months.  I tell my family, I am Marky Mark and you all are the Funky Bunch so this makes me the boss.

Benjamin Franklin Rodriguez
aka Benny "the Jet" Rodriguez

I think this is one of the first movies Marty and I went to see when we were dating in the early 90's.  So began my fascination with baseball.  We used to watch this movie at the beginning of every baseball season for Peyton and frequently still quote it.  Classic.

Back in #33's prime.
It does take a lot of courage to admit I was a big big fan of 1/2 of the original bash brothers.  Growing up I had never been exposed to athletics so when Marty and I began dating I had no choice but to become a fan of one of his favorite sports.  I still have the Jose Canseco glove he bought me when we played on a co-ed softball team.

Jake Ryan
I don't even know this actors real name.  All I know is I watched this movie over and over and over again in high school and still love it to this very day.

Hugh Grant
This might be an odd choice but I love his "cheeky" sense of humor.

I Want to be a YES Girl

Summer 2013 has been very productive for me!  So far, I've....
  • created an art journal
  • actively blogged (although I don't know if anyone has read it....)
  • successfully kicked a nasty diet coke/sweet tea habit
  • attended a Zumba AND Hip Hop class (more than once!)
  • REALLY, educated myself about eating "clean" and the danger of processed food
  • I even finished a 30 day detox program where I eliminated soy, dairy, caffeine, gluten, white rice and bread and sugar from my diet. Yeah me!

I am finishing up Summer 2013 with a online bible study offered by Proverbs 31 Ministry.  It's called, "What Happens When Women Say Yes to God".

NOW, one thing I have not been successful with this summer or in the past with is trust.

I trust my husband - my kids and some family members completely.  I even trust some friends.  I know that sounds harsh that I don't always trust but I have been burned a time or two.  Now do I TRUST in my Heavenly Father?  Of course!  Do I TRUST him 24/7 with every thought, fear, worry or situation?  No.  Not really.  You see, I tend to be more of a worrier.  Anyone else have the same problem?

My bible study assignment this week along with reading and scripture memorization is to explore what is holding me back from going deeper in my relationship with God.

So....what is holding me back?

Fear of not being in control.  Fear of the unknown.  Fear of God revealing something to me that I don't want to know.  Fear of not being able to handle the truth..  Fear.  Fear.  Fear.

I no longer want to be controlled by fear or doubt or worry or anxiety.  I want to be a "yes girl".  A believer who does not always understand why things happen the way they do -- but knows that her Heavenly Father has a plan, has known it since I was created and does not question.  A believer who says yes, when God is prompting me to forgive someone, befriend a stranger, share a piece of my heart or even presenting me with a new opportunity.

I'll start with baby steps.....First, I will plan my day around my quiet time with God instead of trying to squeeze it in before I rush off to work or after school or even in the car.  Quiet time for me will be working on this study and then focusing on a Psalm and/or Proverb daily.  I love to journal prayers so I'll make this part of my time too.  I'll let you know how it goes!

On my way to becoming a "yes girl"!

Blog Challenge #13

Three Confessions of My Choice..........

  • I've had a secret fascination with Jose Canseco since 1992.  Yes, I know he has been banned from MLB and is considered a joke in the sport.  Yes, I know he suffered serious head trauma when he was hit on the head by a fly ball in the outfield.  Yes, I know that fly ball turned into a home run for the other team.  Yes, I know he's on the juice.  Yes, I know he once boxed that red head kid from the Patridge Family.  Yes, my husband is aware.
  • I tend to not answer my cell phone when it rings unless it is a call from my husband or children.  While I may appear to be quite social, I really am just a recluse who likes to screen calls.  I prefer to text.  It keeps the conversation to the point and most of the time it keeps my mouth out of trouble.
  • I was once on a game show back in the EARLY 90's when I lived in the Los Angeles area.  It was very easy to be selected.  I lived in the area.  I seemed enthusiastic and clapped at all the right times.  I was young and energetic and full of promise (or so I thought).  My friend (who was my partner on the show) and I FAILED miserably.  I think all I won was a cheap camera that broke before I got home.  I also had to wear a yellow sweatshirt.
  • If you ask me the name of the game show, I will at least know you read this.

  1. con·fes·sion

    1. A formal statement admitting that one is guilty of a crime.
    2. An admission or acknowledgment that one has done something that one is ashamed or embarrassed about.
    acknowledgement - admission - avowal - acknowledgment

Blog Challenge #12

Happy Happy Sunday to you!  The weather is beautiful in the South today!  Today's challenge is simple.  Just screen shot my desk top.  My desktop is fairly empty so I decided to screen shot what I was working on.  Notice all the tabs I have open in Chrome?  This is reflective of a typical day for me.  Too many tabs open.  Should just focus on one thing and do it well rather than 7 and do them all half way.  Oh well!

Enjoy your day and smile!!

Blog Challenge #11

The question of the day for my next blog challenge.....

What is my favorite quote?

I have too many to name and some will no doubt date me, so just humor me a bit would you?  But first, my personal favorite.....

"Get over it" -- I heard this so much while growing up that I threatened to have it put on a headstone.

Now, I'll just allow you to view my TRUTH pinterest board to see words or sayings I love....

Happy Friday to you!!

Blog Challenge #10

Thought I disbanded the blog challenge didn't you?

I hope to see this thru to Challenge #30 but at the rate I am going, it might be December before I finish. That's ok thought.  Baby steps!

I don't know who thought of these questions but they've got me thinking!

Challenge #10 -- If I could only live off one food and one beverage for the rest of my years, what would it be?

Before I got off the Route 44 crack I would have immediately said Diet Coke or Sweet Tea for my beverage.  Today, my beverage of choice is water with  Arbonne Fizz Sticks or water with fresh squeezed lemon juice and Stevia.

The only food I think, that I would never get sick of... would be sushi but I probably would have mercury poisoning from so much fish.

What food/drink can you not live without?

Blog Challenge #9

Just returned from a week at the beach.  What a blessing to spend a time with family, good friends and nothing to do but sleep in, soak up the sun and just relax.  I've been home a few days and can't seem to find the motivation to get caught up on laundry or get back on task with my "summer to-do" list.

What I can do though is continue on with my blogging challenge.

Number 9 is to list my pet peeves....

Shoppers who are too lazy to return their buggies to the holding stall.

When you are on a phone call and the person you are talking to keeps having side conversations.  Are they talking to me?  Talking to them?  I have been known to hang up when this happens.

When certain family members leave empty boxes, containers, milk jugs, whatever in the pantry or fridge.  Is it really too much work to throw the empties away?

When the kids at school, cannot take the time to remember my name and refer to me as "The Office Lady".  It's quite alright for me to call myself this, but not alright for someone else to.

I'm sure I have more but its late and my thoughts are fuzzy.

Now tell me...what is your pet peeve?

Night Night.

Blog Challenge #8....

Hello Family and Friends -- thank you for taking the time to read my silly little blog!

Continuing on with the Blog Challenge -- here is Number 8......

Three Things I Want to Say to Different People

As I read this I thought to myself, hmm...  Should it be three nice things?  Three compliments?  Three insults?  Three random thoughts?

I think I'll just keep it simple.

Grandma Nellie:

Thank you for the unconditional love you have ALWAYS showed me.
Thank you for always making me laugh.
Thank you for being my safe haven.

Cindy Scott LaRue:

Where do you live?
What are your kids names?
Why did you quit communicating with me?  I thought our friendship would always last....

Pioneer Woman:

Do you really write all the content, make all the recipes and manage your blog?
Where do you purchase the cute tunics you wear?
Do you have a personal assistant?

Blogging Challenge #7

While everyone is losing their mind right now over Game 6 of the Heat vs Spurs, I think I will complete my blogging challenge for the day.

The question of the day is......

Do I Like To Read?  What Are My Favorite Books?

Do I like to read?  Heck ya!  In fact, if I stayed away from the reality TV, I would get so much more reading done.

Some of my favorite authors are:

Jodi Piccoult
Sue Grafton
Janet Evanovitch
Jennifer Weiner

Many times I learn of books after reading the reviews in People magazine.  I recommend checking it out sometime.

So, either stress yourself out when you tune back in to Game 6 while they are in OT or go grab yourself a great book to read and R-E-L-A-X.

Blogging Challenge #6

Happy Father's Day to all the daddies out there.

I lost my dad when I was just a toddler and don't really remember him too well.  I often wonder how different my life would have been had he not passed away so young.  It's hard seeing  posts and tweets about other daddies, but I am so thankful my children are blessed to have a wonderful father.

Now, on to blog challenge #6...

30 Day Blogging Challenge #5

Happy Friday Friends!

I've been quite the recluse today and I LOVE IT!  My mind, heart and soul are soaking up the restful days I've had since summer break started.  Life is good!  Very good!

And so on to the next challenge....

Five Places I Want To Visit

Really?  Just five?

Bora Bora

Lovers Bridge - Paris

Outer Banks

Why these places?  I love the water...any water.  It soothes me.  The Bora Bora Resort  looks like the ultimate place to pamper yourself.  Check out the prices though....way expensive.  After watching The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants I was introduced to Greece and added that to my Bucket List.  I've traveled to Paris before on my own but was only able to spend one day in the city.  Those who know me, know how much I love art and museums and so I would definitely visit the Louvre again and allow myself a few day to tour it.  The Lovers Bridge in Paris would be the place I would take Marty.  I sponsor a Compassion Child named Stefany and while we have corresponded for over two years I definitly plan on traveling to her home country to meet her and her family as well as learn more about her culture.  Finally, the Outer Banks of North Carolina are calling my name.  Guess I've read too many Nicholas Sparks' novels.  Looks like such a peaceful place.

Where do you dream of traveling one day?

30 Day Blog Challenge #4

I get off easy today with this blog challenge!

The Meaning Behind Your Tumblr Name?

No meaning, cause no Tumblr name!  I've heard of Tumblr and see some tweets referencing Tumblr but I really have no clue what it is used for.

Checked out the "official"  Tumblr meaning on "unofficial" Wikepedia and I quit reading about two paragraphs in.  Got enough social media platforms going on in my life so I don't think I'll be adding Tumblr to the mix.

Great weather in the South today.  Heading out to to the pool.

Tell someone you love them today!

30 Day Blog Challenge #3

Challenge Number 3 in my 30 Day Blog Challenge is not very exciting.  Don't even know if anyone is reading this but I know at some point I will look back and read these random posts.  Ok, here goes!

My Day -- in GREAT Detail:

Well, I'm glad I was a busy bee today otherwise you may think I'm just a big lug laying around all day.

So, TODAY went something like this.....

  • Hit the snooze button about 4 times despite having a good night sleep.
  • Gave thanks for the gift of a new day.
  • Did a load of laundry.
  • Woke the Princess up.
  • Tried to feed the pups but discovered they had ZERO food.  Can someone in this family please tell me when they have dished out the last bit of dog food?  Geez.
  • Apologized to the pups and gave them one treat each plus a big spoonful of peanut butter.  I was feeling some guilt.
  • Made the Princess breakfast.
  • Drove the Princess to volleyball.
  • Stopped at Wally World on the way home for a mop.
  • Made a mad dash around the house to "clean up" before the sweet lady who REALLY cleans our house arrived.
  • Played fetch with the pups in the backyard
  • Made myself a great shake with products from Arbonne and my local market.
  • Showered.
  • Dropped off some pictures at a friends (it only took me 2 weeks to get them to her).
  • Went back to wally world for dog food and citronella candles.
  • Picked the Princess up from volleyball.
  • Returned the cutest pair of shoes to Francescas because they squeaked when I walked.  Should have exchanged it for something I wanted but the Princess ended up getting a cute shirt and headband out of the deal.
  • Drove like a bat out of h.e. double hockey sticks to pick up the husband (Captain Crunch) from work for lunch.  It was already past the noon hour and he had to be back for a 2p meeting.
  • Had a FANTASTIC gluten free lunch at Dempsey Bakery with Captain Crunch and the Princess.  I also picked up 6 individual gluten free pizza crusts for dinner as the Princess was having several friends spend the night.
  • Took Crunch Bunch back to work.
  • Took the Princess for allergy shots.
  • Took the princess to our local camera shop, Bedford so they could trouble shoot what was wrong with the camera she got for Christmas.  Turns out it has a manufacturer problem and they are sending the camera back to Nikon.  In the meantime, they gave her a snazzy loner.  This is the great customer service you get when you support your local businesses.  Had we made the purchase at a big box retailer we would have been responsible for getting the camera back to the manufacturer....and a loner camera?  Fuhgeddaboudit!
  • Went to Whole Foods for produce and other items we just had to have.  Did I mention I am working hard to eat healthy this summer?  This requires visiting two different grocery stores and a Farmers Market or two.  Hubby is not embracing the cost to "eat clean' nor does he care for the taste.
  • Drove the Princess out to the country to pick up one of the friends who is staying the night.
  • Finally fed those poor puppies after arriving home.
  • Put my feet up for a minute to enjoy the clean smell of Fabulousa throughout the house.  Every other Tuesday is a happy day for me.  Thanks Priscilla!
  • Facebook posted a picture of the fabulous door hangar that was just put up yesterday.

  • Chopped zucchini, tomatoes, red onions and bell peppers to top my homemade pizza.  Got all the regular pizza fixings organized for the rest of the crew.
  • Met a new friend of the Princess.
  • Laid out all the ingredients for the Princess and three of her friends to make their own individual pizzas.  Crunch Bunch made his own too.....with REAL bacon, pepperonis and cheese.  Mine was much healthier.  He did not care for the Gluten Free crust.  When Princess tried to offer him a snack later he announced he had had enough "gluten free" products for the day.
  • Watched a little of the Giants / Pirates game.
  • Worked on a page from my art journal.
  • Ate my dinner.  Yum-O.
  • Cleaned up the kitchen.
  • Sneaked a Peek at RHONJ.  I couldn't resist.
  • Drove Princess and Friends to nearby outdoor shopping mall so they could hang out.
  • Drove back after Princess called the minute I shut the garage door to say nobody was at the mall.
  • Alerted Princess on the ride home to the fact I am not her personal assistant.  I'm confident she did not hear a word.
  • Started this blog entry.
  • Did one more load of laundry.
  • Made break and bake cookies for the guests.
  • Forgot to set the timer for cookies and almost burnt them to a crisp.  This is what happens when I attempt to multi-task.
  • Assisted Princess while grumbling simultaneously as "we' picked up the glass of milk she knocked off the counter.  Did I mention my house had just been cleaned earlier today?  The hardwoods smooth after being cleaned....  I don't know why but my kids spill things on the floor and the dogs get sick or have an accident on the floor ONLY every other Tuesday after the house has been professionally cleaned.
  • Loaded the dishwasher.
  • Finished this entry.
Wow.  That's alot for one day and I'm not sure I captured everything.   Who thought of the challenge for this day anyway?  I'm pooped!

Oh, in case your wondering why I have not mentioned Batman.  Well, he's pretty self sufficient these days and he happens to be out of town playing basketball.

Night night.

Blogging Challenge

I have not posted to this blog since April 2012.

I may have been a little too ambitious thinking I could blog, tweet, post, pin, text, talk all while continuing to be a wife, mom, friend, employee....etc...

Still, I think I'd like to try to continue to blog occasionally.  With that said, while perusing Pinterest I came across a 30-Day Blogging Challenge.  Seeing as I am trying all sorts of new stuff this summer why not add this to my goal list too!

Disclaimer:  For all you professional bloggers (you know who you are), please forgive my grammar, spelling and random rambling.  I am just a mere mortal and never have claimed to have any special grammar skills.

And so I begin with Challenge Number 1:

Write Some Basic Things About Yourself

Hmmm, didn't I just do that?

Ok, here a few facts about me that you may not know......

  • My great-grandmother lived with my family from the time I was just a toddler until I moved away after high school graduation.  She did not speak a word of English -- only Spanish.  I should be fluent in the language, but I managed to leave home with just a basic understanding of the language plus my pronunciation is horrid.  Wish I knew it better.  What a gift to be fluent in a second language.  I was told by a family member, I could have learned it better if I wanted to.  Maybe so, but I think I did pretty good.  Granny Fila and I seemed to be able to communicate ok.  I would use as much Spanish as I could then throw in the English word when needed.  It went something like this... "Grandma, yo quero pancakeeeeeeeeeeees. "  See, I could say everything except for the word pancakes so I made up my own word.  She got it and I got the pancakes.  Rest in peace Granny.  I was blessed to have you in my life.  I'm sorry I did not realize it at the time.
  • I have a deep fear of drowning.  Primarily, being stuck in my vehicle if it somehow ended up in water.  I keep one of those apparatuses in my glove box that can both cut a seat belt and shatter a window.
  • I am obsessed with the HGTV show, House Hunters International.  I wish when Marty and I were newly married that we just packed it all up to move over to a foreign country.  Too hard now with teenagers, but maybe later in life?
  • I have to sleep with a fan on either overhead or next to my bed.  Drives Marty crazy.  He says it makes him "stuffed up".  The cool breeze plus the white noise it provides is necessary no matter what time of year.
  • I rarely finish what I start so don't be surprise when you quit hearing from me around Blog Challenge 12........
